Alessandro Pensini joined the LBNL Microgrids group to participate in the ongoing development of DER-CAM based optimization strategies. His contribution consists in the implementation of a new coordinated optimization model that will expand DER-CAM capabilities by introducing simultaneous control of more facilities connected to the same distribution feeder. This will allow customers to benefit from electricity cost reduction while reducing the impact on the distribution system that a simultaneous individual optimization of more facilities could cause.
Alessandro is a PhD candidate at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). His research focuses on the investigation of different options and strategies for coupling the electricity generation with other components of the energy system, in order to exploit their energy storage capabilities and associated benefits.
He holds a MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) of Stockholm (Sweden) and a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pavia (Italy). He also received a diploma in Hungarian Language from the University of Pécs in Budapest (Hungary).
