Introducing First AC Power Flow and Microgrid Topology Into DER-CAM

Network constraints have been a major challenge for microgrid designers. Often neglected, network losses between buildings and voltage constraints should be considered to build a reliable microgrid.

For this reason, the DER-CAM team has worked on modeling and integrating these constraints. The multi-location features of DER-CAM give a thorough building-by-building investment planning. It returns the optimum distributed energy portfolio for each building considering power flow constraints for each time step. The user only has to enter the load profile for each building and the electrical network configuration of the considered areas.

This version passed the first testing and is operational. The next step will be to add a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to make the power flow capabilities widely available to the users.
