Goncalo Cardoso is currently a Principal Scientific Engineering Associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory working for the Grid Integration Group of the Energy Storage and Distributed Resources Department. He received a M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, University of Lisbon, Portugal, and later Ph.D. in Sustainable Energy Systems from the same institution within the MIT-Portugal Program. He focuses on Distributed Energy Resources Investment and Planning, having worked with DER-CAM since 2009. Some of his key contributions to DER-CAM include the implementation of stochastic capabilities, electric vehicle fleet modeling, modeling of scheduled and unscheduled outage events and load prioritization, heat pump modeling, modeling of investment subsidies and new tariff schemes (e.g. feed-in, tiered tariffs), and modeling revenue streams resulting from the participation of DER in ancillary service markets.
